CORROSION TESTING IN BELLEVILLE WASHERS

Corrosion tests shown here are real and they’ve been done in the detailed conditions of the methodology section of these tests. .

Pieces used for these tests are belleville washers, also known as belleville springs, some samples made in stainless steels  and others made in the standard steel of this type of elastic washer but with different anticorrosion coatingsIn the section of materials and coatings, we can see diverse solutions to corrosion for these kind of pieces.

All tests have been done with the same type of samples, allowing us to compare their behaviour against different corrosion situations. In the methodology tests section we find an explanation of the sample’s type used.

In order to give a broad view of the pieces behaviour, tests have been selected with various corrosive agents, applying different stress or fatigue conditions and also varying the exposure temperature. This gives us a fairly complete view of how these factors affect and how the parts behave before them, according to the material or anticorrosive protection used.

It is important to emphasize that validation of these tests is for the scenario and conditions in which each of them has been made. In a real situation can be some variations of any of these factors which makes the corrosion resistance of the pieces vary. For this reason, results should be taken as orientative information.

That is why we recommend you to contact with our specialists if you need answer about a concrete issue.

Tests are divided in 3 groups:

Without tension With tension With fatigue
Tests done without any effort being applied to the pieces. This give us information about the material or coating free of internal tensions. During the test, the pieces are compressed supporting a constant tension. It reflects those cases in which the external effort remains unchanged. Dynamic tests in which the washers work in fatigue cycles. We can observe and compare the behavior of the springs in corrosive environments combined with fatigue.
